The Capitol Hill Republican establishment is readying another “show vote” to make it look like they are doing something to stop the infiltration of Muslim terrorists – jihadis as they call themselves – through Obama’s misguided and dangerous refugee resettlement program.
Let’s be clear, the only way to stop Obama’s open borders policy is to defund it – and Capitol Hill Republicans have the opportunity to do so in the coming Continuing Resolution to fund the government that must be passed in December.
But instead of having the fight to actually do something to stop Obama, House Republicans, led by Speaker Paul Ryan, are readying a vote on a completely useless bill that will not stop one jihadi from entering America.
The bill is the so-called “American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act of 2015’’ or as the ‘‘American SAFE Act of 2015’’ authored by Rep. Richard Hudson (NC-8). You can read a discussion draft of the bill through this link.
The bill says in part, “A covered refugee may not be admitted to the United States until the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with the Attorney General, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Director of National Intelligence, certifies to Congress that that covered refugee is not a security threat to the United States.”
The bill goes on to state, “The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation shall take all actions necessary to ensure that each covered refugee receives a thorough background investigation prior to admission. A covered refugee may not be admitted until the Director certifies that that covered refugee has received such a background investigation.”
Republicans touting this bill as the solution to the existential national security threat of jihadis infiltrating the United States through the refugee program think they are being clever by putting the FBI certification process in the bill because FBI Director James Comey has testified about the difficulties of investigating Middle Eastern refugees.
Last month Comey testified that “a number of people who were of serious concern” slipped through the screening of Iraq War refugees, including two arrested on terrorism-related charges. “There’s no doubt that was the product of a less than excellent vetting,” he said according to The Washington Post.
Although Comey said the process has since “improved dramatically,” Syrian refugees will be even harder to check because, unlike in Iraq, U.S. soldiers have not been on the ground collecting information on the local population. “If we don’t know much about somebody, there won’t be anything in our data,” he said. “I can’t sit here and offer anybody an absolute assurance that there’s no risk associated with this.”
Comey was quickly contradicted by Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and Obama’s record on such certifications is one of ignoring the facts in favor of delivering a political result, or simply ignoring the law, knowing that Congress will do nothing.
So let’s be clear about what is going to happen on the so-called American SAFE Act of 2015.
The bill will get a vote in the House and pass with overwhelming support, probably with a lot of Democrat votes. It will go nowhere in the Senate, likely being filibustered by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and if by some miracle it did pass the Senate it would be vetoed or ignored by Obama.
So let’s be clear about who the SAFE Act of 2015 is actually protecting. It is not protecting innocent Americans from the threat of terrorism or the cultural assault of the Obama-led Muslim invasion of their country.
The SAFE Act of 2015 is only protecting vulnerable Republican incumbents who are facing conservative primary challengers, like incumbent Martha Roby in Alabama-2 , who is being challenged by Becky Gerritson, like incumbent Renee Ellmers in NC-2 who is being challenged by Frank Roche and Jim Duncan, and like incumbent Pete Sessions in TX-32 who is being challenged by Russell Ramsland.
The SAFE Act of 2015 will not stop one jihadi posing as a Syrian “refugee” from entering the United States, but it will make Capitol Hill’s Republican establishment look like they are doing something, when in fact they are complicit in Obama’s dangerous plans because they keep funding them.
We urge you to call your Representative and Senators, the Capitol Switchboard is 1-866-220-0044, tell them you understand that the SAFE Act of 2015 is nothing but a “show vote.” Tell them that if they fund Obama’s dangerous Syrian “refugee” program they own it. Tell them that if they fund the program that brings jihad to America then they are complicit in the murder and bloodshed that will surely follow.
